Freelancer Profile : Benoit Palabre
Published May 2, 2022
Benoît Palabre is a serial entrepreneur: he notably created MINK, a web development agency based in Bordeaux, and Where You Love, a virtual assistant that allows you to find the ideal property. With his experience as a business leader, he decided to become freelance to support others in managing their operations, coordinating projects and facilitating structuring and processes. What motivates him on a daily basis? The plurality of projects entrusted to him by his clients, whether they are an entrepreneur, a start-up or a large group. His last mission with Comet was also doubly rewarding since Virbac, the client, asked him to ensure the project management of one of their new B2B sites, and then the mapping and project management of their eCommerce system! Always ready to take up challenges, Benoît successfully piloted these missions. His secret weapon? His dog Wyl, who brings him joy every day!

Why did you decide to be a freelancer?
I decided to move into freelancing after spending eight years building businesses. With every company I founded, I encountered problems with management, coordination and operations, and particularly in terms of structure and process. I realized that it was extremely difficult to find a suitable profile that matched this specific set of skills. When I sold my last company in 2021, I thought that freelancing was an opportunity for me, especially given my profile specialized in management and operations management.
What do you enjoy about your freelance life?
What I really like is the variety of missions both in terms of the issues and the teams with which I work. I like the possibility of being able to intervene in different fields and sectors of activity. I also appreciate the flexibility that being self-employed gives me.
How do you work more effectively as a freelancer?
Today, I find that I am much more efficient: I have developed a process that allows me to quickly integrate myself into the subjects and issues that my clients want to resolve. I generally start by doing an audit phase to confirm the problem posed by the client, this phase lasts on average between 1 and 2 weeks. Then I define an action plan followed by the operational implementation phase, which is truly focused on solving the problem posed. Inevitably, I am much more efficient compared to when I had to solve other problems in the mean time as a business manager.
What do you do to stay competitive among freelancers?
My main asset is clearly my label as a business leader. When I arrive in a company, I have a reading of the whole of the stakeholders and the ins and outs of a company and this is a great strength that I have, I believe, compared to freelancers who have never set up a business or have never scaled up to more than twenty employees.
Today, the supply of freelancers is quite limited when it comes to operational management. There are few freelancers who get into this area of helping structure and set up processes. There are many freelancers who are either on the implementation of the strategy, or on the pure operational. But there are very few middlemen like me who come to make the link between strategy and operations.
I also try to always remain curious, open and attentive and I constantly monitor what is being done on the market and what is being done in companies.
Do you have any personal side projects or other parallel activities (hobbies/passions)?
I practice a lot of sports, I played much soccer when I was younger, I also played American football, and I play video games to clear my head. And above all, what works very well is that I have a dog and he's a real tool to take my mind off things! He is a real soft-toy and it makes me feel good to spend time with him.
"The Comet interface is extremely clear and easy to use. I find that the monitoring and support of Comet's account managers is a real plus."
