Freelancer Profile: Wenkun Li

Why did you decide to be a freelancer?

After my studies in science and technology in China, then my engineering degree obtained at IMT Atlantique, I began my career as a permanent contract consultant,.  I had the opportunity to work in consulting firms and large financial companies such as Société Générale. I went very far in the technical side and I tested many sectors, but I needed to continue to progress, to advance faster and to go further.

What do you enjoy about your freelance life?

I would say the novelty and the diversity of the projects. I think that passion is a real driving force in my professional career and that it gives me energy to always keep moving forward and surpassing myself.

What do you do to stay competitive among freelancers?

I try to train myself online and I love to read and document myself to deepen my knowledge: at the moment, I am training in the SAFe method (Scaled Agile Framework), which makes it possible to implement agility on a large scale, within a company as a Product Owner, it's exciting! Topics related to platform architecture are also very interesting to me! I also like to exchange with my peers and participate in meet-ups, I find it very enriching. And I try to participate in initiatives like Women in Tech, in order to encourage and support other young women to pursue a career in tech.

Do you have any personal side projects or other activities in parallel?

I created my own company Gnomon Digital, which specializes in digital transformation. I chose the name "gnomon" because it is an astronomical instrument that allows you to visualize the movements of the Sun on the celestial vault by its shadow. This is what I try to do for my clients, to give them direction by relying on innovative technologies such as big data, artificial intelligence and the cloud. Today I have three employees who work with me, and I intend to develop our offer even more!
