Nicolas Milleret, 33, has found his path in life and this in many ways thanks to freelancing. Driven by a spirit of adventure, he constantly seeks to improve and acquire new skills. Nicolas is currently working on the design of the new identity of the GOWOD brand and the redesign of the interface of its application. For more than 10 years, Nicolas worked in an agency specializing in digital communication for luxury brands. A trip to Malaysia was all he needed to make a new and radical career choice.

When he returned, he decided to take the plunge and become a freelancer: he was confident in his ability to offer real expertise to clients. Today, thanks to Comet, he can focus on what he does best, working on various assignments for the most innovative companies in his field.

Why did you decide to become a freelancer?

I worked and evolved for more than 10 years with a permanent contract in an agency specializing in digital communication for luxury brands.

In 2019, I took unpaid leave to go on a trip around the world with my partner. I realized a dream and made many fascinating encounters, one of which allowed me to see that there was another way than wage earning. In Malaysia, we met in our hotel a couple of travelers who became very good friends. They traveled like us and worked at the same time developing websites remotely. It was an eye-opener for us to see that this way of life, called "digital nomad", was possible. It was the beginning of a journey towards freelancing. When we returned, I  began the process of creating my own business.

What do you enjoy about your freelance life?

Each mission brings its share of reflection, with a variety of subjects covered, technical constraints and deadlines. Getting out of my comfort zone and facing these new issues is very stimulating. I need this intellectual stimulation to keep progressing. That's what I love about my job.

How and why do you feel you can be more efficient as a freelancer?

I am in direct contact with clients. Because of this, I have direct access to their objectives and ideas, which can sometimes be distorted or watered down with intermediaries. This allows me to better target their expectations and to bring our exchanges into my creative process. My work reflects my client requests and not my vision of their product.

What do you do to stay competitive among freelancers?

I usually do graphic, technical and trend listenings to be up to date on the subjects I have to deal with. In parallel with my missions, I train in other software to complete my offer. Currently I am on motion design and after that will be 3D.

Do you have any side projects or other activities in parallel?

I plan to launch an app in the world of travel. But sssh... it's still in wireframe phase!

I would also to create a collective of freelancers in order to be able to broaden the spectrum of services by offering a wider range of skills.

My projects are rich and I sell a quality service.

But one step at a time!

“Thanks to Comet, I got my first job as a freelancer. It gave me confidence in my new professional life and the doubts I had before I started are now very far behind me. Today, I look to the future with new impetus and a desire to go even further.”

Mission:

Application redesign

Challenge:

Define new process between project stakeholders.

Objective:

Review the ergonomics of the app, its design and find UX solutions to improve usability.

Solutions:

The use of Figma and the implementation of prototypes for the approval of concepts before development.

Impact:

We created the layouts and prototypes very quickly to identify the right solutions which were then developed without having to go back on the decisions made during the design phase.

“Comet allowed me to find a job suited to my profile. I also like the follow-up from Melissa who checks in on me to see if I'm open to new opportunities.”
